Do you often find yourself living with a scarcity mindset? Are you intimidated by the thought of letting go of the present to pursue a brighter future. You are NOT alone. At some point in our lives, we are all faced with a decision that will forever make an impact on our future. Learn how to take the opportunity in front of you or forever let it pass and be content with the decision you've made. Find peace in yourself and live in bliss once you've made up your mind. This can be a tough decision and often times it causes so much stress thinking about the "what ifs" that by the time we make up our mind, the moment has already passed. I'm here to tell you that you are capable of more in life. I am going to give you 3 tools to help you prepare yourself for the next time a big decision crosses your path and you begin wondering what life would be like if you seized the moment, took the chance, and went all-in without looking back.
Step 1 to overcoming a scarcity mindset: PREPARATION
The first step to overcoming your scarcity mindset is to prepare yourself for opportunities to come. We are all capable of more than we think and tend to hold ourselves back by living an average lifestyle. If you want to escape your current situation and get to a higher, better, and more elite level; you need to be willing to take massive action to get there. The most successful entrepreneurs and executives I know spend countless hours learning their craft, reading, studying, and exploring new skills. They do not concern themselves with who won last night's game, the typical drama amongst housewives, and they certainly do not think about all of the negatives associated with the chance they took to elevate themselves to a higher level. When you put the time in to research, learn, and practice the skills you need to get from where you are to where you want to be; it almost becomes a part of you. It becomes instinctual to make hard decisions and be ready to face the adversity that comes with them. Opportunities present themselves constantly if you put yourself out there and look for them. Instead of running out of fear, the preparation you took before hand will set you up to take this opportunity head on; knowing without a doubt, that you can handle it. Remember this, the bigger the obstacle the bigger the blessing. Put another way, the obstacle is the way to achieving your biggest dreams.
Step 2 to overcoming a scarcity mindset: ASSESSING THE RISK
Now that you have mentally and physically prepared yourself for the opportunities to come, it's time to understand a thing or two about risk. Ask yourself these questions next time you are scared to go all in or scared to accept a new opportunity. What is the absolute worst case scenario? What is the absolute best case scenario? What is the most likely outcome? What is holding me back from saying yes and moving forward? What is making me want to say yes and move forward? By listing out these answers, you will see that for a far majority of the time, the reward is worth the risk. It may require some temporary pain or discomfort but when that pain goes away the sweet taste of victory will soon become an addicting dopamine hit straight to the brain; leaving you craving more victories and overcoming more obstacles than ever before.
Step 3 to overcoming a scarcity mindset: LEAVING IT ALL ON THE TABLE
Once you have prepared yourself for overcoming the scarcity mindset and assessed the risk, now is the time to either get in or get out. I'll tell you this from experience, If you dip your toes in the water you will regret it every time; but, if you decide to go all in and make that leap of faith, you will discover that it was far more rewarding than sitting scared. We are all creatures of habit and stuck in the vicious life cycle of risk vs reward. Don't be scared to accept new opportunities. There are numerous times throughout our lives that we are faced with opportunities that if taken, would completely change the outcome of our lives forever. I have passed on numerous opportunities out of fear in my life and have learned that fear will destroy your chances of success, fear will wreck your life, fear will kill every dream you have ever had. The moment I committed to going all-in and doing whatever it took to succeed was the same moment that my life forever changed. I'm here to tell you you can make the same decision and reap the same outcomes. It isn't easy but it is worth it.
For it is written:
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. -Proverbs 3:5-6
You were put on this Earth to do something great. Stop being scared to take risks, learn the skills you've been wanting to learn, and go live the life you've been wanting to live. You've got this, get out there and start taking life by the horns. Be the badass you were meant to be.
